PwnageTool 2.0.1

July 22nd, 2008

awesome PwnageTool 2.0.1PwnageTool jailbreaks and unlocks older iPhones, and jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touches.”

I’m not getting the iPhone 3G so this should definitely suffice.
Hopefully Apple solves the battery life, terrible camera and numerous bugs with the next 3G iteration of their phone.

Huge thanks to the wonderful “iphone-dev team“, and my good friend Killy for the heads up.

New Pong by Moritz Waldemeyer

led_pong_moma New Pong by Moritz Waldemeyer

This piece from the exhibition recently shown at the MoMA, Design and the Elastic Mind is designer Moritz Waldemeyer’s refresh of the classic Pong game by Atari released first in 1972. Essentially a table, it combines 2,400 LED’s and two trackpads as the interface for Pong. When switched off, it’s simply a classic white table.

Check out some more works from Waldemeyer.

Airport Extremed, almost.

March 15th, 2007

airportextreme_main_1 Airport Extremed, almost. So I finally made the decision to upgrade my wireless network at home to the fancy new Airport Extreme released recently by Apple. What’s the big deal you say? Well, for starters it supports the draft 802.11n protocol which means a more reliable, increased range, and faster wireless experience. And, this beauty has the exciting Airport Disk function which lets me hook up any amount (yet to be tested) of USB drives and share them over the wireless network. It’s like an el cheapo NAS for dummies.

I am having problems though (gasp!) with Airport Disk. Shock! Horror! Folders were not showing up, and files magically disappeared - thank god after reconnecting them directly to my Macbook they were still there. My drives are currently formatted in the FAT32 file system and are over the 32 gigabyte threshold which seems to be causing problems. I did this initially because I wanted to be able to read/write to my external hard disks in both Windows and OS X, and the latter does not support writing to NTFS drives (uhum which brings the question, Apple, why not?). Since Airport Disk uses SAMBA, i’m thinking the most logical thing to do is convert my FAT32 drives to HFS which is my mission over the next few days.

Oh, I also picked up this funky Belkin USB/Firewire hub to go with the thing. Fits perfectly all snug and sexy beneath the base station!

A wireless iTunes library for my MacBook Pro? Bring it on!

The Switch

November 1st, 2006

product_15in The SwitchI am in the process of deciding whether to give up my Dell 9300 for a 2.33GHz 15″ MacBook Pro Core Duo 2. I’ve been to appledefects.com and i’m a little apprehensive.

I am curious if anyone has one who visits ‘83, and would be glad to know your thoughts before I go out and completely splurge my savings on one…

Dell Support in Hong Kong is AAA

August 3rd, 2006

The LCD on my Dell 9300 went a bit wacky (there was a 1-pixel width vertical green line & yes I am a perfectionist). I have international next business day support until 2009 so I arranged for them to come and fix it yesterday.

The technician came today and was done in 15 minutes.
I now have a shiny new LCD panel on my 9300. Fantastic!

Bye Bye Vista

August 1st, 2006

Last night I removed and ditched Vista completely back for XP…
It lasted around hmm.. 2 weeks maybe? I guess that is ok for a Beta v2. Or is it…

A couple of reasons:-

  • It didn’t like my Logitech Webcam.
  • It didn’t like my built-in Subwoofer of my Dell 9300.
  • It didn’t like my Canon 350D.
  • It didn’t like connecting to my LanDisk.
  • It didn’t like it when I tried to multitask with iTunes running.
  • It didn’t like my new Webcam.
  • I didn’t like how the Start button was partly hidden coz of stupid UI design.
  • Aero/Glass was stable, but only when you were using just the OS.
  • Again, the system is stable but only when just using the OS alone.

Good luck Microsoft!

Windows Vista Beta 2 on Dell Inspiron 9300

July 17th, 2006

vista Windows Vista Beta 2 on Dell Inspiron 9300Last night, I installed Windows Vista Beta 2 on my Dell 9300. Everything went swimmingly. So, sign up for the Beta Experience at Microsoft.

I will update this post later on my experiences.
All I know is, the UAC/UAP is horrible… see this tweak guide at Chris123NT’s blog on how to remove the User Account Protection (when Vista asks you if you really, really, really want to delete that Shortcut!…)

Asus WL-167g, Landisk, 300G Seagate

May 24th, 2006

So I got an Asus WL-167g to replace that horrible D-Link wireless dongle I purchased , and it works like a charm!

Other geeky hardware I picked up was a V-Gear Landisk (which is amazing, I might pick up another one), and a 300gig Seagate Drive, because the RAW photos from my Canon 350d are space hoggers…

DWL-G122 vs WL-167G

May 7th, 2006

DWL-G122I bought a D-Link Wireless G Adapter today, DWL-G122 DWL-G122 vs WL-167G at the Wan Chai Computer Mall for $200 HK. It is a horrible piece of hardware, unstable and unable to recognize my router.

I am taking it back tommorow for an ASUS WL-167g DWL-G122 vs WL-167G, which will hopefully be able to detect my WL-530G DWL-G122 vs WL-167G Router.

Let’s see how it goes!
