I noticed 1983 was getting a tad slow on server responses, whether this is because of WordPress or traffic I don’t know. I’ve implemented this nifty little plugin called WP-Cache 2. Don’t know if it works, but hey lets give it a go!

Also stumbled upon this big ass timewaster called Google Image Labeller.

You pair up with another random person whos online at the site (or you can create an account if you’re really keen…) and play this mini game in which you define or label keywords for images on Google - in essence improving Google’s Image Search.

Shouldn’t they be offering a prize or something for the top scorers? You’re basically unknowingly working for Google, for free, albeit improving your ego if you’re Top 5 on the All Time Ranking. I’m surprised they don’t have Adsense blocks around the whole thing. In a sense, it’s how Google has become so accurate with their searches, but with images they can’t use autonomy to detect what the image is. Is this the ultimate sneaky solution?

Anyway, quite addictive nonetheless…

I had a little free time today (shock!) and was just browsing around for some nice addons for WordPress. I found this beauty, WP Tiger Administration by Steve Smith.

Steve has done a wonderful job of giving the WordPress Admin area a slick visual update based upon the sleek aesthetics of Tiger (OS X). The install is simple (upload to your plugins folder, and activate.)

What a difference! The only thing is, it doesn’t work in Internet Explorer. But do you care?… You don’t use that thing, do you now.

Pouchulu Architects

I’ve stumbled upon a few plugins which I have to plug!

Lately I’ve been working on WordPress’ing www.ultranauts.com, a site on UMPCs (Ultra Mobile Personal Computers). The result is a fully widgetized, 100% CSS layout custom Wordpress Theme. The site is now live and running, but heres a few plugins which I found handy:

Brian’s Threaded Comments
Ultranauts wanted a better way to display the comments. Brian’s Threaded Comments was a great option, and works extremely well.
Just upload, backup your existing comments.php, and activate. What else can I say.

Search Hilite
Search Hilite from Mediaprojekte is an awesome little plugin which will highlight your search terms on the results page.
Simple, and effective. I had a problem with an annoying ‘headers already sent’ error, to resolve this I opened up the search-hilite.php in notepad, saved it as ANSI and bingo, bob’s your uncle.
The reason is, something to do with white space in the PHP file. I don’t know… whatever. Also check out Mediaprojekte’s other plugins. Nice!

WP-Polls
So the previous Ultranauts site was in Joomla. I don’t have anything against Joomla but that I don’t like it since I’ve discovered WordPress. Anyway, getting back to the point, Ultranauts wanted a Poll system so I discovered this little beauty from Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan (how l33t.) This plugin is pretty, works well and even AJAX’ified. Sexy.

The Excerpt Reloaded
Ok I didn’t use this plugin for Ultranauts, but I still like it.This is a pretty nifty plugin which automatically truncates your posts which extend over a user specified limit and adds a continue/more link to the end.
Loads of customization options and works extremely well. I sort of wanted to use it for ‘83 but then I realized I don’t really have that much content to truncate.. (ha.)
